A time capsule has been buried to mark the beginning of construction work by Kier London, on the flagship 'Keyworth II' building at London South Bank University.
The time capsule included a copy of the local paper and coins dated 2007. It also included photographs and other materials from faculties and departments, including Health & Social Care, Education and Sports & Exercise Science, for whom the new building will be a new home after completion in 2009. Part of the university's 15-year campus development programme, the building will also house an innovative centre for the teaching, demonstration and research of low carbon energy technologies. Councillor Bob Skelly, mayor of Southwark said: "London South Bank University is one of the most important institutions in the area and makes an enormous contribution to the local community and the local economy. I would like to congratulate the University and all of its supporters for reaching this important milestone in the construction of the Keyworth II project."
The building was designed by architects Grimshaw. |
