John Lewis plans to spend £20m on refurbishing its store at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.

The retailer will completely refurbish the store's ground floor and convert a basement into a Waitrose food hall.

The food hall is expected to open in summer 2009 which is 10 years after the store first opened.

It will be the first John Lewis/Waitrose food hall outside of London.

Bluewater was ranked number nine in Experian's Retail Ranking, which rates the UK's top retail destinations.
