At this years’ prestigious Builder and Engineer awards held last night at The Palace Hotel in Manchester, HBG Construction was awarded Main Contractor of the Year. This year is the 10th anniversary of HBG’s foundation from the merger of Higgs and Hill, Kyle Stewart and GA. HBG has proven itself as one of the most consistently profitable, safe and socially responsible major contractors of the past decade. Its performance climaxed in a record 45% profit increase this year. Alfred McAlpine won Civil Engineering Contractor of the Year. In 2006 the company completed the £120m widening of the M60 motorway- one of the busiest in the country. The project provided an additional motorway lane on opposing carriageways, together with parallel collector distributor roads between junctions eight and six. The Architectural Practice of the Year was awarded to Sheppard Robson, an international practice providing architectural services, urban design, town planning, master planning and interior design services. With more than 65 years experience, it is one of the largest practices in the UK with over 300 people in established offices in both London and Manchester.
