Green light for £35m Oval redevelopment
Tuesday, 09 June 2009
The £35m redevelopment of the Oval cricket ground in Kennington, south London has recieved planning consent.

The London Borough of Lambeth, supported by the Greater London Authority, resolved to grant planning permission in January 2008, however the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) asked for the plans to be “called in” and considered by the Secretary of State over concerns that the development was in too close a proximity to the nearby Kennington Gasholder Station.

After a public inquiry the Secretary of State has now granted planning consent.

The scheme will include a new stand to bring the capacity of the home of Surrey County Cricket Club to 25,000 as well as 168-bed hotel.

The plans are being funded with Surrey County Cricket Club’s development partner, Arora International Hotels.
