Granada TV is holding talks with developer Peel Holdings over plans to move major parts of its operations into Media City, the area of Salford Quays which will soon be home to several departments of the BBC.
It is thought that Granada is trying to decide whether to redevelop its current Manchester site or move to the Peel Holding's project. Granada needs 350,000 sq ft of office and studio space at the existing site and has shortlisted three developers to describe how they would develop another site: 24-acres of development land near Spinningfields, Manchester. However, selling the city centre Quay Street site and joining the BBC is one of the options that is being given serious consideration by broadcasting chiefs.
It has been calculated that the Media City development will bring £1.5 billion to the local economy and create around 15,000 jobs. |
