Energy firms bid for power station land in Wales E-mail

Two major energy suppliers will bid for the land around Wales' only nuclear power station to build a new reactor.

US firm Energy Solutions and French firm Edf Energy are competing to buy the land near Wylfa on Anglesey, which is currently owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Prime minister Gordon Brown has said he wants eight power stations built over the next 15 years to replace plants due for decommissioning.

Both firms are anticipating that the government will order a new station to replace the existing one.

It is thought the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority will make an announcement shortly.
