Developer shortlist for Hull Fruit Market E-mail
Wednesday, 08 August 2007

Five developers have been shortlisted to work up detailed proposals for the main development parcel in Hull’s historic Fruit Market area, following the first stage of a development competition run by Citybuild.

The five developers are:

* CTP St James & Wright Group

* Gladedale Group (Reland)

* Horncastle Group

* Igloo Regeneration

* Ispace & Quintain & Wykeland Group

The developers now have until the end of September to put together their detailed proposals which will then be displayed in a public exhibition in October. A Selection Panel will evaluate the submissions and select the preferred development partner in December 2007 to take the scheme forward.

John Haymes, Development Director at Citybuild explained:  “We have been working extensively on this area for three years, given its very complex nature, with a particular focus on progressing land assembly whilst putting in place the essential development framework which will guide and support developers to realise our vision for the area.”

The historic  3.6 hectare Fruit Market offers one of Hull’s most exciting development opportunities with its historic fabric and enviable waterfront location. The area is set to be transformed into a stylish mixed-use lifestyle quarter through a mix of charming conversions and exciting new buildings. These will house a mix of residential, workspace, leisure and retail uses and create a vibrant area which will retain its old town charm and character.

Citybuild is also pressing ahead with its proposals for a Compulsory Purchase Order to complete the essential land assembly exercise. Citybuild has already secured about 70% of the properties by agreement. An important deal has been agreed with the Fruit Traders which should see them relocate to a purpose-built facility in West Hull next year

Architects involved with the various teams include Surface, BDP, Chetwood Leeds, DLG Architects, and Turley Associates.
