Corruption conference for construction E-mail
Monday, 10 September 2007

Corruption in the infrastructure sector causes immense damage, both in developing and developed countries. Corruption damages not only the country and its people, but also the many contractors and consultants and engineers who wish to undertake honest business and operate on a level playing field.

The UK Anti-Corruption Forum is holding a one-day conference in London on 2 October 2007 entitled “Preventing Corruption in Infrastructure”.

The conference will examine what is being done to prevent corruption in the UK and international infrastructure sector, whether these measures are fair and effective, and what more should be done.

The conference will look at:

- How UK business is responding to the challenge (seen from the perspectives of contractor, consultant and professional engineer) -How corruption is being prevented in the construction of the Beijing and London Olympic facilities
- The actions being taken by the UK and Tanzanian governments
- The anti-corruption actions and punitive measures adopted by the World Bank and EU Commission
- An anti-corruption action plan for the sector
- Anti-corruption law and enforcement
