The Construction Industry will pick up £190bn of new orders between 2007 and 2012, said ConstructionSkills today.

The organisation said it expects 7, 500 new projects over the period, as well as ongoing repair and maintenance work and general construction projects already underway.

ConstructionSkills said more than 3,800 of the projects are valued at under £2m. It added the future is bright for smaller businesses too.

The organisation is urging firms to take advantage of this future demand by considering their approach to training and retaining staff.

ConstrictionSkills said its training campaign aims to reduce these business costs and provide employers with the skills they need to take advantage of the business boom.

Guy Hazlehurst, ConstructionSkills deputy director of skills of strategy said: “The future of the construction industry looks healthy and it is those companies who have staff with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time who stand to capitalise the most  and investing in training is the only way to guarantee that.”
