Contractors’ anger at subby bashing E-mail
Monday, 03 March 2008
Specialist contractors today voiced their outrage against what they claim is unfair treatment of subbies by housebuilders.

The National Specialist Contractors’ Council (NSCC) said Bloor Homes has contacted its members to propose a 5% recuction on existing sites.

The housebuilder has joined Barratt, Bellway Homes, Charles Church, David Wilson Homes, Nicholas King Homes and Taylor Wimpey in the move.

The NCSS said: “The squeeze is not just being applied to Specialist Contractors but consultants and material suppliers too. With 87% of respondents to the latest online NSCC State of Trade survey reporting an increase in suppliers’ prices, Specialist Contractors, which keep the construction industry moving, are feeling the pinch from all sides, putting some in an almost impossible position and struggling for survival.”
