Construction industry output in the year to April 2008 was up 2 per cent on the previous year, according to the Office fo  National Statistics.

Despite the positive note, figures from ONS suggest output is slowing on a month by month basis.

Included in this figure was a four per cent rise in new build projects on the back of increases in infrastructure, private commercial and public housing work.

However, private housing output slumped, down 5 per cent.
