Growth in UK construction workload fell to its lowest level for more than a decade in the first quarter of 2008, according to the latest figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors(RICS).

The figures reveal that one in five surveyors has seen a drop in workload in the first three months of the year.

Private housing was the worst hit sector, with workload growth turning negative for the first time in nine years. The North has been particularly badly affected.
