Construction and engineering jobs top salary chart E-mail

The construction and engineering sectors are topping the salary charts for UK recruiters, a report has shown.

The survey, conducted by BMG Research on behalf of Recruiter magazine, examined the salaries of recruiters working in the construction, driving, education/teaching, hospitality and technical engineering sectors. Recruiters in these sectors earn, on average, more than the average UK worker.

High-earners work in the technical engineering sector, with consultants earning £35,839 and managers earning £45,339.

Those working in construction are paid the second highest at both consultant and managerial level. They earn £34,280 and £44,330 respectively.

Kristian Hicks, a manager at construction recruiter ITS, told builderandengineer.co.uk that construction workers and engineers are highly sought after.

He said: “It’s not like high-street recruitment, it’s a lot more specialist and it’s a lot more difficult to find the candidates because it is so specialist. So when you do get a candidate you can charge a lot more for them because they are in such high demand.”

He added: “Finding a secretary might take you an hour, but finding a quantity surveyor might take you three weeks. So you can charge a bit more and get better commission. Because it’s a specialist sector, you tend to get more money, which means more in commission.”
