Carillion has completed track renewal work on Manchester Metrolink’s Altrincham Line, for clients Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE).

The project completed on time, involved a 55 day shutdown where teams from Carillion Rail, Carillion Regional Civil Engineering and SkyBlue completed the following works:

* 7640m of track relaying (113lb FB CWR, twin-block sleepers & reballast)
 *500m of new drainage
 *8860m of design tamping (on track that is not being renewed)
 *8670m of rail grinding (on track that is not being renewed) and
 * upgrading of 11 platforms

This project is part of the £20m contract awarded to Carrilion in October last years for track replacement, consisting of the replacement of nearly 20 miles of track on the Bury and Altrincham lines during 2007.

Anthony Slater, project manager said: “Well done to all those involved. All efforts are now focused on completing works on the Bury Line, which is scheduled for completion on 10 September 2007.”
