Carillion together with John Laing have won its second top industry award for work to upgrade the southern section of the Chiltern line, including Marylebone and Beaconsfield stations.
The two-year Design, Build, Finance and Transfer (DBFT) contract for Chiltern Railways won Project of the Year at the National Rail Awards. The contract made UK rail history as the first of its kind in the rail industry. It was completed and handed over both on time and below budget. The project has previously scooped Best Operational Central Government project at the Public Private Finance Awards hosted at The Grosvenor Hotel, London, held in May. Work included the provision of two additional platforms at Marylebone, permanent way alterations, drainage, lighting and signalling works. Beaconsfield Station also benefited from an increase in line speed to 75 mph created by permanent way realignment and signalling enhancements.
