| Bullying is rife in the construction industry |

B&E has learned that 68% of construction managers cite lack of management skills as the primary cause of bullying. This compared to a national average of 66%.
A report by The Chartered Management Institute and the Ban Bullying At Work Campaign questioned 512 senior managers across the UK. The report's authors said unrealistic targets also contributed to bullying at 33% compared to on average of 27%. Authoritarian management skills were 58% in the construction industry compared to 56% elsewhere. The report revealed that the top reason companies should deal with bullying at work in the engineering and building sector is falling productivity. This came in at 45% compared to the national average of 37%. |
