Glasgow city planners have given the go-ahead for a controversial and massive expansion of the city's Buchanan Galleries shopping centre. The owners Buchanan Partnership, a joint venture between Land Securities and Henderson Global Investors, say work will begin late next year and be finished by 2011. The plans involve extending the size of the centre by 65 per cent to give over one million sq ft of floorspace and creating a 3000 parking spaces on top of an upgraded Buchanan Bus Station. The proposal includes a new joint entrance to the Galleries and the Royal Concert Hall on Buchanan Street. The centre will remain open for business during the construction |
