The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson has today rejected plans for a £100m redevelopment of Queen's Market in Upton Park, east London.
Boris Johnson has directed Newham Council to refuse planning permission for St Modwen's plans. The plans would deliver a new market hall, including 164 market stalls and 6,374 sq m of shop units and provide 350 homes in a 96m high tower, a new civic building and library. Newham Council approved the plans last month after five years of consultation. The mayor's decision was based on the height, appropriateness and quality of design of the 96m tower, which would be the centrepiece of the scheme. |
