The Black Country could become the hub for modern methods of construction, according to local businesses.

Black Country Investment (BCI) will unveil its plans to create a pilot- manufacturing hub for the offsite industry in the Black Country at the Spotlight on Offsite conference at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham on 16 May.

Charles Roach, head of investment at BCI said: "We see offsite construction as the future of manufacturing in the West Midlands, with the Black Country playing a pivotal role.

"Nationally, the West Midlands region can be regarded as a centre of opportunity for expanding component suppliers and with over 6,000 manufacturing and engineering businesses already based here, and there will be increasing demand for new products in the future. The Black Country is uniquely suited to take advantage of these opportunities."

The need for offsite production has never been greater, fuelled by demand for high quality affordable housing, adoption of more sustainable construction methods to reduce the carbon footprint as well as vital international events like London 2012 which will serve as a showcase for these new collaborative approaches between the manufacturing and construction sectors.
