Balfour Beatty subsidiary Birse Civils has won a £20m contract to deliver improvements to Edge Lane on the route into Liverpool from the M62.
Work will include improvements to pedestrian facilities at new and upgraded signalised junctions, soft landscaping, and tree planting as well as extensive diversion of utilities. The Edge Lane West Project will require extensive traffic management as well as housing clearance and the demolition of approximately 371 properties. While the majority of these will be cleared under a separate contract Birse will have to demolish 125 homes. The project is being funded by the Homes & Communities Agency, Liverpool City Council and coordinated by Liverpool Vision. Birse Civils will spend the first three months of the 23-month contract moving utilities pipes and services. Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2011. |
