Bill Dunster plans eco holiday homes
Friday, 15 August 2008

Eco-architect Bill Dunster is in talks with tourism companies to design holiday homes that can supply their own power for heating and electricity.

The architect's ZEDfactory practice has produced draft plans for the cabins including a composting toilet, wood-fired kitchen stove, a green roof and solar panels.

Each cabin comes with a free mountain bike and are designed to sleep up to six people.

A communal wind turbine could also be installed where the cabins are built in a cluster.

ZED factory is exploring potential sites where the timber cabins could be marketed as "luxury camping" accommodation.

The cabins have a target price tag of between £40,000 and £50,000.

Dunster is hoping that the design will also be attractive as green homes for low-income residents.
