BBA produce robust scheme E-mail

Construction product manufacturers can now sign up to the Robust Details product verification scheme run by the British Board of Agrément (BBA). The initiative will make it easier for builders and specifiers to identify the correct products for use in Robust Details walls and floors.

Robust Details remains the only alternative to pre-completion testing of the acoustic performance of new-build homes and, with 69 per cent market share, has proven popular among builders and specifiers across England and Wales.

The scheme’s success relies on separating walls and floors being built in accordance with the RDL step-by-step guidelines, using products that meet the strict criteria set out in the Robust Details Handbook. However, given the plethora of products available in the market, it is often difficult for customers to distinguish certified products from those with unsubstantiated acoustic performance claims.

BBA’s new service is endorsed by RDL and will benefit both manufacturers and customers alike – giving customers the confidence that their product selection meets the necessary performance criteria as well as boosting industry standards.

As part of the service, the BBA will verify manufacturers’ claims against the benchmark performance criteria and publish a list of all verified products on a dedicated RD page on its website. As a result, builders, designers, suppliers and builders’ merchants will be able to identify, at a glance, accredited products that are acceptable for use with Robust Details.

Alan Thomas, Sales and Marketing Director at the BBA comments: “We’re in the process of verifying the manufacturers’ performance claims for products that have been submitted so far and invite any other interested suppliers to contact us about joining the scheme. We’re aiming to have the page live on our website before September in time for the autumn build season.”
