The Marylebone Cricket Club's redesign of Lord's took a step closer today after five architects were shortlisted to develop a masterplan. The five are: BDP, David Chipperfield Architects, Dixon Jones, Herzog & de Meuron, and Hopkins Architects. Eighteen firms submitted tenders for the contract, which has received a mixed response from MCC members. The masterplan will look at; an increase the ground's capacity, to between 35,000 and 40,000; the installation of permanent but retractable floodlights; the development of an Indoor Cricket School & Cricket Academy with an analysis suite, gymnasium, sports injury clinic and treatment rooms alongside the retention and improvement of the Nursery (practice) ground. It is thought the masterplan will also look at the possibility that a hotel could be built as well as the potential for residential development at the Wellington Road end of the Ground to act as an enabler for improvements to the Ground. |
