Alderley Edge bypass gets green light E-mail

The Department for Transport has granted approval for works to be carried out on the £51m A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley bypass.

Work is due to commence in August with the scheme set to open in 2011.

Transport minister Rosie Winterton confirmed that the Government would fund £48m of the 5km road, which will improve links from the area to Manchester and Manchester Airport.

Cheshire County Council will meet the remainder of the total £51.6m cost.
