Aggregate claims fall on stony ground E-mail
Thursday, 28 September 2006
Contractors will not see  a reprieve in aggregates costs, after the European Court dismissed claims to scrap a tax on the material.
The Aggregates Levy charges £1.60 for each tonne of material produced in the UK, which suppliers pass straight onto contractors. The British Aggregates Association launched a campaign against the tax, which it claimed creates an unfair advantage to companies that produce materials exempt from the tax, such as china clay and slate.
However, the European Court of Justice this month dismissed the BAA’s claims.
