Accrington Brick stops production E-mail

Accrington Brick, the Lancashire company which made the bricks for the foundations of the Empire State Building, is to suspend production it was announced today.

The company which is owned by Heidelberg Cement Group, said it had been hit by the sudden slump in the housing market. Around 70 jobs are expected to go.

The factory is not closing - a skeleton staff of around 12 will be retained to clear a backlog of stock.
