Budget hotel operator Accor UK is to open a 150-bedroom budget hotel in Manchester.

Landowner Royal London Asset Management has secured planning permission for two buildings at the corner of Great Ancoats Street and Pollard Street, one a maximum of seven storeys containing the hotel, the other a five-storey office building with retail on the ground floor.

A second phase of development will also include 74 new homes and a 20,000 sq ft food store.

French-owned Accor UK has been involved with the project for more than three years.

The site is set in the New East Manchester regeneration area close to the Albion Mills residential development, Islington Wharf and a proposed new Metrolink line linking the city centre with Oldham. The site currently contains two vacant single storey buildings.

The project was designed by Manchester-based architect HKR.
