The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announce that it has earmarked almost £1 million for a second Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) in Morecambe. The initiative is called "A View for Eric" As one of only thirteen towns and cities across the UK to be invited to develop a 'Stage 2' application, Morecambe is now in line to benefit from significant investment in revitalising the Art Deco and Victorian shop fronts in the heart of the resort and improving the streets and public areas that surround them. The idea behind 'A View for Eric' was born following last year's public debate over the positioning of the popular statue of the comedy legend. The focus of THI 2 is to create a vista for Eric that will complement the stunning views of the Bay that act as his backdrop and further revitalise the town as a place to 'live, work and play'. 'A View for Eric' will continue the successes of the first Morecambe THI, which has seen the restoration of key listed buildings such as the Midland Hotel and Mona House and over seventy residential and commercial properties throughout Poulton.
