The final decision on whether a £200m 472 ft skyscraper will be built in London, will be made by Communities Secretary Hazel Blears within the next few weeks.
Coin Street Community Builders, which runs Gabriel's Wharf and redeveloped the Oxo Tower plans to build a 43storey tower on a site between Waterloo Bridge and the Oxo Tower. Doon Street tower would contain 282 flats, a leisure centre and swimming pool. The plans have attracted criticism forcing a public inquiry - which took place in the spring. Critics have said the location of Doon Street is inappropriately located and will have a huge impact on London-wide views. In addition to this, none of the flats are affordable homes, with prices ranging from £320,000 to £575,000. London mayor Boris Johnson has decided not to object to the plans despite recently giving an election pledge to protect London's historic skyline from tall buildings. |
