London Mayor, Boris Johnson called for developers, planners and architects to enter projects that display industry excellence, as he launched this year’s London Planning Awards.
The Awards are promoted by the Mayor of London, London First and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and are joined this year for the first time by London Councils. In the last five years winners have included; the Arsenal Emirates Stadium, the Lower Lea Valley Olympic and Legacy Masterplans and Kings Cross Central. Two new categories have been introduced to this year's awards – Best Project to Protect Communities and Best Built Project 5 years On - as well as some changes to existing categories to reflect the priorities of the new Mayor. The 2008 award categories are as follows: Best Built Project Best Built Project – Community Scale scheme Best Conceptual Project Best New Place to Live Best Project to Protect Communities Best Built Project – 5 years on The organisers are now urging local authorities, consultants, developers and others to submit applications. The deadline for entries is Monday 20th October 2008. The Awards will be hosted by Boris Johnson in late January/early February 2009 at City Hall. |
