The redevelopment of a £120m campus for City College Norwich has moved forward this week after a planning application was submitted to the council. Master planner AukettFitzroyRobinson has completed its masterplan for the 20acre campus that will include 7m sq ft of college buildings. The redevelopment of the Ipswich Road campus will take place in two phases with the first phase due to begin in 2009. The first phase of the redevelopment will involve the demolishment of the current Sixth Form Centre and halls of residence to be replaced by new buildings housing the School of Technology, the School of Creative Arts and the School of Hair, Beauty and Leisure Industries. In addition a new partially underground car park will be built at the back of the site as well as an energy centre to make the best use of green technology. Phase Two of the redevelopment will provide a new Hotel School with a hotel and restaurant open to the public, together with a new building housing the School of Health, Social Care and Early Education and other new teaching and learning spaces. If approved construction is expected to take around six years to complete. |
