A three-year programme worth more than £100m to improve transport in Liverpool looks set to be approved. The city council's executive board is being asked to give the go-ahead for the Transport Capital Programme up to 2011 following the Department for Transport (DfT) announcing allocations to the city under the Local Transport Plan. These amount to £30.4million over the three years but will be used to attract external funding from the DfT, European Regional Development Fund, Northwest Regional Development Agency and other private and public sector bodies. It is estimated that the programme will be worth a total of £107m.
Among the schemes included in the programme are: Cllr Mike Storey, executive member for regeneration, said: "It is vital that we get the city's infrastructure right to support its regeneration and this programme will ensure that important schemes are carried out. "It will lever in millions of pounds into the city and benefit all forms of transport users. This programme will provide improvements for motorists, public transport, cyclists and pedestrians.” |
