MGT Power has submitted a planning application to build one of the world’s biggest renewable energy generators on land at Teesport, Middlesbrough.
The proposed Tees Renewable Energy Plant (Tees REP) would burn wood to produce 300MW of electricity annually – enough to power 600,000 households. The 14 hectare site was chosen because of suitable access to deep water needed to import the woodchips needed to power the plant. MGT Teesside – the developer and subsidiary of MGT Power – has set up a contract to export power to the National Grid. Redcar and Cleveland Council will now consider the application. MGT is holding a public exhibition on August 5 at South Bank Library, Middlesbrough. |
