Coronation Power has submitted a proposal for four large wind turbines at Bickham Moor, Rackenford. Each one will measure up to 125 metres high. The application to Mid Devon District Council comes just weeks after the Government's energy minister approved plans for 22 turbines at Ilfracombe in North Devon. The Exmoor National Park Authority, which expects to be consulted on the latest application, said it was urging councils to look at the accumulative impact of all the proposals on the table. Coronation Power said building the wind farm would help achieve Devon's renewable energy targets to generate 151MW of renewable electricity by 2010. At the moment, there was a shortfall of 57.5MW, and the Bickham Moor scheme was predicted to generate 12MW - enough to power 6,300 homes. If the scheme gets the go ahead, it is expected to be generating power by 2011. |
