A major mixed-use development in Ashford, Kent that boasted it would be the biggest zero-carbon development in the UK has been turned down by council planners.Giving a lie to those who believe that sticking the tag "green" or "eco" before any development was a sure way to turn planners' heads. The scheme will now go to a public inquiry. The plans for the former Powergen site included more than 1,000 homes and retail and leisure buildings including a supermarket. It is the second time proposals for the site have been turned down. The developer ZED Homes said it was disappointed by the decision and had now appealed. The centrepiece of the design includes an 11-storey, 140ft high tower. |
