Amec has expanded its environmental consultancy services in Scotland with its acquisition of Young Associates, a specialist ecology and environmental impact assessment business.

The operation has 18 staff split between offices in Chester and Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.

Roger Jinks, president of Amec's Earth and Environmental business said: "The specialist services provided by Young Associates complement and strengthen our existing environmental impact capabilities.

"The market for ecology and environmental impact assessment is growing significantly as a result of legislative and regulatory changes.

"This acquisition gives us greater ability to support our UK clients on environmental matters and is consistent with our strategy of geographic expansion."

Lyn Young, managing director of Young Associates added: "This allows sustainable growth and consolidates the high quality of service that has been provided to our clients for the last nine years. It also opens up wider career opportunities for our environmental specialists as part of an international organisation."
