Severn Trent has announced plans to build a new national headquarters in Coventry.
The company has decided to relocate its headquarters to a new office development to be built in St Johns, near the city's Magistrate and Crown Court buildings and Council offices. The consolidation plans will see around 1,700 Severn Trent staff relocate to the new premises in 2009, leaving their current headquarters in Sheldon and other offices around Birmingham and the region. The 170,000 square feet / 15,793sqm office development will include a 380 space car park for staff and 175 space public car park. Severn Trent chief executive Tony Wray said: “This is an exciting opportunity for us to bring together many of our south Midland’s functions to one, modern, specially designed business centre and in doing so will contribute to the ongoing economic development of the city. “It will also offer us business and economic benefits that will help make us a more efficient company and which will ultimately benefit our customers. Most importantly though, the new complex will provide our staff with a modern, environmentally sustainable office environment which is hugely more suited to today’s flexible working style and business needs.” Plans for the new building which is due to be an exemplar in environmental and sustainable practices both in terms of its construction and future use are expected to be submitted to the council later this year, with building programmed to start early next year on the site of the current 128 space surface car park.
