Network Rail appoints framework contractors E-mail

Network Rail's programme to renew and improve its stations received a boost with the appointment of three specialist contractors.

The firms, May Gurney, J Murphy and G Osborne have signed new framework agreements with Network Rail which cover work at stations, such as platforms, bridges, lifts and car parks as well as Network Rail depots and other property.

Under the programme, Network Rail expects to invest around £15m in the first year of the contracts and then between £25m-£30m for each of the subsequent years.

The framework agreements nominally cover three geographical areas, Southern, London North East and London North West, however Network Rail can deploy each supplier across the entire network:

*Southern (including East Anglia, South Eastern, Southern, Wessex and Western): G Osborne
*London North West: J Murphy
*London North East: May Gurney

The new framework follows a review of how Network Rail carries out its station renewals work, which reduced the number of suppliers from five to three. Network Rail has said this will improve the way renewals are carried out while increasing efficiencies.

Ian Sexton, head of strategic sourcing at Network Rail said: "Our new agreements mean that we can deliver better value for money while we renew and improve our stations and facilities for all those who use the railway.

"We were impressed by the level of competition during the tendering process, and we are looking forward to working with our contractors in carrying out our major estates investment programme."

The framework agreements are set for an initial two year period with the option to extend for a further three years.
