Morgan Sindall’s urban regeneration business Muse Developments has signed an agreement to deliver a £350m mixed-use development in Swindon.
It is one of the largest regeneration schemes ever in the South West and was signed with a public sector consortium comprising English Partnerships, South West of England Regional Development Agency and Swindon Borough Council. Union Square will be a flagship regeneration project for the town centre, providing up to 160,000 sq m of high-quality office space and homes, 25% of which will be affordable. It will also help to regenerate the town’s leisure facilities, providing new shops, restaurants, cafés and a new hotel. In addition, Union Square will include a range of new facilities to improve visitors’ experiences of Swindon, such as attractive open public spaces, an improved bus interchange, new facilities for the local primary care trust, and a new multi-storey car park. Work on the project is scheduled to start in 2010 and is expected to take 10 years. |
