Galliford Try-owned Morrison Construction today said it has won two Transport Scotland road improvement contracts with a combined value of £10.5m.
The larger of the two contracts is an £8m scheme to upgrade the A7 in Dumfries and Galloway The contract involves constructing just under two miles of "off line" carriageway alignment to replace the existing winding road on the west bank of the River Esk, near Auchenrivock. Work is scheduled to get underway imminently and the new road should be in service by the end of the year. The second contract is the £2.5m replacement of Achnambeitach Bridge near Glencoe on the A82. The existing structure was built in the 1930s and is now in poor condition and unsuitable for modern traffic loadings. Jim Steele, operations director for Civil Engineering Scotland, said: “These latest awards take the number of major Scottish roads contracts that Morrison Construction has secured in the last four years to eight with a combined value in excess of £150m. “These upgrades will improve safety, traffic flows and benefit the region’s travelling public. Work will be carried over the next year with minimum disruption to the normal traffic flows.” |
