Morgan Est/Vinci JV chosen for £417m Lee Tunnel
A Morgan Est and Vinci Construction Grands Projets joint venture has been chosen as preferred bidder to deliver the £417m Lee Tunnel for Thames Water.The MVB consortium is comprised of Morgan Sindall's infrastructure services business London-based Morgan Est with 50% shareholding in the venture, France-based Vinci Construction Grands Projets with a 30% stake and Burscough, Lancashire-based Bachy Soletanche with a 20% stake.
The project involves the construction of a seven metre internal diameter storage transfer tunnel, which is approximately 6,900 m long, from Abbey Mills Pumping Station to Beckton Sewage Treatment Works.
Works include the construction of two, 25 m internal diameter shafts and one 20 m shaft (two at Beckton and one at Abbey Mills) and a 38 m diameter off-line Tideway Pumping Station Shaft.
Work is expected to commence in April 2010 and the tunnel is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2014 in order to comply with Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive set by European Union.
