Work on Redcar’s long awaited new £30m hospital is due to get underway, after a consortium to build it was finally appointed. Redcar and Cleveland Primary Care Trust is welcoming the Department of Health’s green light for a joint consortium of Ryhurst and Sir Robert McAlpine to build the new hospital and health centre on West Dyke Road. It will replace the ageing Stead Primary Care Hospital and house four GP practices, currently based in Redcar Health Centre on Coatham Road. Ground works due to start in February.
Plans for the new hospital were first unveiled in November 2004. It was originally hoped work could start in June 2006 and be completed by summer 2007. |
