Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) has selected the M-Pact Thales consortium as preferred bidder for the design, construct and maintenance contract for a major expansion of the Manchester Metrolink tram network. The consortium is made up of Thales, Laing O’Rourke and GrantRail. New Metrolink lines will run to Oldham and Rochdale, Droylsden in Tameside, and Chorlton in South Manchester, almost doubling the size of the existing network. GMPTE now needs final sign off on the extension from the Department for Transport which will enable a contract to be placed with the M-Pact Thales consortium. The deal will also include a quarter of a mile extension to Mediacity:uk in Salford Quays. |
