Willmott Dixon’s social housing arm Inspace has won a £5.3m deal to build extra care housing for Richmond Housing Partnership.

The contract on Dean Road in Hampton, Middlesex was won in competitive tender and involves building 41 units and a day centre on land previously occupied by houses and shops. The units will be available on a shared ownership basis as well as affordable rent, while the day centre will be run by Richmond Council.

The lightweight steel frame block will consist of one and two bedroom apartments, along with staff offices, a kitchen and dining area, retail unit and landscaped courtyard.

The scheme is being produced by Richmond Housing Partnership with the support and collaboration of LB Richmond and the Department of Health. A variety of features have been incorporated to minimise the building’s environmental impact.

It will have a green roof and a communal heating system partly powered by solar thermal panels.

Inspace is working with architect RPS on the project which is scheduled for completion in July 2010.
