HBG will be in charge of construction of Liverpool's £90m Mann Island development, which will crate a link between the river Mersey and the city centre.

Client Neptune Developments and Countryside Properties appointed HBG.

The development will feature public areas, cafes and restaurants, shops, exhibition space, 376 apartments and 13,000 sq m of high quality commercial office space. The first apartments will be ready for occupation in the first quarter of 2009.

Construction will start in September with full completion expected in December 2010.

Steve Parry, managing director of Neptune Developments, said: "Everything is moving on programme with Mann Island and we are delighted to welcome HBG Construction on board with this historic scheme. Mann Island has been described as the most important development site in Liverpool and we are all pleased to see work really getting underway."

John Grealis, regional director of Countryside Properties added: "We are delighted to have appointed HBG. They are now extremely busy procuring labour, plant and materials to make a start on site at the end of September, upon completion of the demolition works."
