Gleeson Building has won a £65m PFI contract, its biggest yet.  The company won the contract from Avantage and will design and construct five care home facilities as part of a new £200m PFI scheme in Cheshire.

The PFI recently secured with Cheshire County Council is the largest PFI initiative of its kind to date. On completion it will deliver over 430 extra care dwellings in five locations across the county.

Avantage, the consortium made up of Harvest Housing Group, MJ Gleeson Group and Nationwide Building Society, will provide homes for the over-60's in Handforth, Ellesmere Port, Middlewich, Winsford and Crewe.  Each development will include self-contained apartments, 24-hour on-call staff, a hair salon, library, IT suite, restaurant and village hall.

Martin Smout, Gleeson Building chairman and chief executive said: "This development will bring a new standard of care homes to Cheshire, enabling elderly people to continue to live an independent life, in high quality housing, supported by the care they need.

"This project was won due to Gleeson Building's growing reputation in the care home industry. We have won over £100m of work in the care homes industry in the last two years."
