Galliford Try has won preferred bidder status on a £50m contract for Anglian Water.

The contract for the Wing Water Treatment Works in Northamptonshire is Anglian Water's largest single capital project. It will involve the design, construction and commissioning of a standalone extension to the existing Water Treatment Works. The project also involves the construction of two major pumping stations.

Mott McDonald will be Project Engineer and Earthtech is the specialist process design sub-contractor.

Once completed, it will represent a 30% increase in throughput and serve people in the Peterborough, Corby, Northampton and Kettering areas.

Galliford Try chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: "We are delighted to be playing a major role in delivering Anglian Water's infrastructure programme. Galliford Try is already a leading framework contractor to the water industry and this appointment demonstrates once again our ability to add to our workload by winning additional major projects."

Work is due to begin in January next year and is expected to complete in December 2009.
