Plans to build a new £12m leisure complex in Derbyshire have moved forward this week after Derbyshire Dales District Council appointed a design team led by Drivers Jonas (DJ) Sport. The DJ Sport team including Dyer Architects, Desco (service engineers), Cundall (structural, civil and geotechnical engineer), Watkins Dally (landscape architect) and Appleyard and Trew (cost consultant), submitted the winning bid in a tendering process to select the project manager and design team. The team will now draw up the detailed design. The leisure complex located on a brownfield site between Matlock and Darley Dale will cover an area equivalent to 10 international sized football pitches. It will incorporate a new swimming facility, two sports halls, a fitness suite, café, meeting rooms, and community room while outside there will be football pitches, BMX trails, ecological corridors and a multi-use games area. Extra funding has been received this week after confirmation of a £500,000 grant from Sport England; this is in addition to the £7m the District Council has already invested into the project. |
