Costain JV takes £80m road contract
Thursday, 28 January 2010
Costain has been appointed, in joint venture with Lagan Construction and Ferrovial Agroman, to Phase 1 of an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract for the A8 Belfast to Larne dualling scheme in Northern Ireland.

The A8 is a strategically important road within Northern Ireland.  This stretch of the A8 carries in excess of 17,000 vehicles per day and is important to the economy of Northern Ireland because the port of Larne must be serviced by an efficient road link.

The client for the contract is Roads Service, Northern Division.  The contract, which has a total value of £80m, is to support Roads Service in taking the scheme through the statutory processes, including Public Inquiry, and in designing and constructing the scheme.

Commenting on the contract award, Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive of Costain, said:
"This ECI contract, for a new blue-chip client with a large portfolio of future schemes, strengthens our position as one of the UK's leading solution providers in highways and adds to our portfolio of significant highways projects."
