Birse Civils has been awarded a £16m contract by Birmingham City Council for the construction of Phase 2 of the Selly Oak New Road, south of the city centre.
The contract award follows a three year design programme undertaken by Birse Civils working with the Council. The 830m road will connect with the recently completed Selly Oak New Road Phase 1A, providing a new road to the northwest of Selly Oak Centre running from Bristol Road at Tesco Express to Harborne Lane. The main feature of the road will be the construction of two new 70m long bridges to carry the Birmingham & Gloucester Railway and the Birmingham & Worcester Canal over the new road. Work is due to start this month with completion in Spring 2011. Birse Civils will work with sister company Birse Rail for some parts of the project while Gifford and Tony Gee and Partners are consulting engineers on the scheme. |
